Every TB case that is diagnosed or started on treatment in India must be notified to the TB programme. Since May 2012 this applies to government, private and NGO providers alike, and notification is done on Ni-kshay.
Who must notify
The NTEP knowledge base says every health care provider must notify, including government, private and NGO clinical establishments and individual practitioners. Any TB case that is diagnosed or started on treatment must be reported, with patient identification and diagnosis details, through Ni-kshay.
Why notification helps the patient
- The patient gets a Ni-kshay ID and is followed up by the programme.
- Free TB medicines and tests through the programme, even while seeing a private doctor.
- Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana: Rs 1,000 a month during treatment, paid by DBT.
- Family members can be checked for TB and offered preventive treatment.
How a private provider notifies on Ni-kshay
Get Ni-kshay access
Ni-kshay has a private provider login type. If you do not have access, contact your District TB Officer’s office or the nearest TB Unit.
Notify the patient
Enter the patient’s identification and diagnosis details. Notify at diagnosis, not at the end of treatment.
Add bank details for incentives
Your facility’s bank details must be validated. The DBT manual notes that the “forego incentive” setting is Yes by default and must be changed to No to receive incentives.
Update the outcome
At the end of treatment, declare the outcome from your own login to receive the outcome incentive.
Incentives for providers and informants as of October 2026
| Incentive | Amount | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Notification | Rs 500 | For notifying a TB patient (private providers) |
| Outcome declaration | Rs 500 | For declaring the treatment outcome from the private provider’s own login |
| Informant | Rs 500 | For referring a person with presumptive TB to a public facility, where TB is then confirmed |
Amounts are as listed on the NTEP knowledge base when we checked. The programme can change them, so confirm with your District TB Officer.
The DBT manual includes laboratories and pharmacists among private providers eligible for the notification incentive. Ask your district TB office how to notify from a lab or chemist login.

What is the informant incentive?
Anyone who refers a person with presumptive TB to a public sector facility, where TB is then confirmed, can receive Rs 500 as an informant, as listed by the NTEP knowledge base.
